Tyler Thomas, the Hofstra men's basketball team outlasted Delaware, 76-71, on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Darlinstone Dubar, who had 18 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in the game, went over 1,000 points in his Pride career in the game. He became the 41st member of the 1,000-Point Club at Hofstra.
Hofstra improved to 8-7 and 1-1 in CAA action with the win. Delaware dropped to 9-6 and 1-1 in the league.
An early 10-0 run put the Pride in front at 10-3 with 16:13 left in the first half after a three-pointer from Thomas. Hofstra would stay in front and expand the lead to 13, 32-19, with 7:20 left before intermission as the Pride scored seven straight including a three-pointer from Dubar to end the run. The lead grew to as many as 14 in the opening 20 minutes before Hofstra settled for a 12-point lead at the break.
A basket from Thomas with 12:39 left in regulation would give Hofstra its largest lead of the game at 59-43 before Delaware mounted a rally. The Blue Hens went on a 16-4 run to cut the deficit to four, 63-59, with 6:24 left. Hofstra would continue to hold the advantage with Delaware closing the gap to three, 74-71, with 1:35 left. Jacco Fritz with 1:13 left as he slammed home what accounted for the final points of the game and the conference victory for the Pride.
Fritz had a strong game for Hofstra as he tallied 15 points and nine rebounds, while
Jaquan Carlos nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 assists for the Pride.
Christian Ray had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Delaware, which also got 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists from Jyare Davis.
Hofstra will head on the road for its next two games as the Pride will face Northeastern next Thursday in Boston at 7 p.m. That game will air nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Hofstra will then close the week with the second half of a unique conference road swing, traveling to Buies Creek, North Carolina to face Campbell on Saturday at 2 p.m. It will be the first-ever meeting between the programs.

- Hofstra now leads the all-time series with Delaware, 68-34. The Blue Hens are the Pride's most-played opponent all-time and the series began during the 1953-54 season with a 72-62 Hofstra win. Hofstra has won seven straight in the series, 14 of the last 16 and 20 of the 23 meetings dating back to the 2014-15 season. The 102 all-time meetings rank first ahead of the Drexel (97) and Towson (77) series for the Pride.
- Thomas reached 20 points in a game for the 11th time this season and the 23rd time in his Pride career.
- Carlos tallied 10 or more assists for the sixth time in his career and third time this season.
- Thomas tallied a career-high three blocked shots in the game.
