Tyler Thomas had 21 points and
Darlinstone Dubar added 20 points and a career-high tying 12 rebounds but Charleston rallied in the second half and eventually tallied a 73-61 victory over the Hofstra men's basketball team on Thursday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Hofstra fell to 7-7 and 0-1 in CAA play with the loss, while Charleston improved to 10-4 and 1-0 in the league.
The Pride dug itself an immediate hole in the contest, falling behind 16-4 after just over four minutes of game time. Hofstra gradually chipped away and would use a 14-5 run to close to within two, 29-27, with 3:47 left in the half. Thomas had five points during the run and Dubar closed the run with a driving layup.
After Charleston took a two-point halftime lead, Hofstra put together a 13-5 spurt to open up a 45-39 lead with 16:35 left in regulation following a basket from Dubar. The Cougars would score the next eight points of the contest, though, and the visitors led 47-45 with 12:36 remaining.
With 7:13 left Hofstra would hold a 57-53 advantage following a three-pointer from Thomas, but Charleston took over from there. The Cougars would close the game on a 20-4 run to earn the victory in the conference opener for both squads.
Jaquan Carlos added 14 points, five assists, and three steals for the Pride, which also got 10 rebounds, four points and three assists from
Jacco Fritz.
Bryce Butler led Charleston with 18 points, while Frankie Policelli tallied 11 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.

- Tonight was the 19th all-time meeting between Hofstra and Charleston. The Pride now leads the Cougars, 10-9, in the all-time series.
