Dubar led five players in double figures in tallying his sixth double-double of the season.
The win evens Hofstra's record at 9-9 this season and moves the Pride to 2-3 in CAA action. Hampton dropped to 4-14 and 0-6 in the league.
The Pirates led 36-18 with 3:30 left in the first half before Hofstra used a 9-1 run to close the gap to 37-27 with 1:52 left before intermission. Hampton was able to take a 15-point lead into the break as they scored the final five points of the stanza.
The deficit was erased quickly in the second half as the Pride went on a 17-0 scoring run after Hampton scored the first two points of the half. The game would be knotted at 44 after a Dubar dunk with 14:56 showing on the clock. Dubar tallied nine of the Pride's points during the game-tying run.
Hampton was able to push the lead back to seven, 58-51, with 9:28 left before Hofstra made its final move. Nine straight Pride points made it a 60-58 Hofstra lead, which was their first of the game. After Hampton jumped back in front at 65-62, Hofstra took control with a 14-3 run that gave Hofstra a 76-68 lead with 4:50 remaining. The Pirates closed to within three late in the half but the Pride was 17-20 from the free throw line in the second stanza to keep the visitors at bay and earn the win.
Tyler Thomas had 14 points and eight rebounds, while
Jaquan Carlos (13),
Bryce Washington (11), and
German Plotnikov (10) all finished in double figures as well. Plotnikov started for the first time in his career. The Pride's 23 free throw attempts (20 makes) were the most attempts in a regulation game this season (30 vs. High Point is season-high).
Trey Thomas led Hampton with 17 points, while Ja'Von Benson added 16 points and five rebounds.
Hofstra is back next Monday when it travels east to face Stony Brook. Game time is set for 9 p.m. and the contest will air nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
