Buies Creek, NC -
Darlinstone Dubar had 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds but the Hofstra men's basketball team dropped a one-point game, 69-68, to Campbell on Saturday afternoon at Gore Arena.
Hofstra's record moves to 8-9 and 1-3 in CAA play. Campbell improved to 8-9 and 2-2 in the CAA.
The Pride fell behind by as many as 15 points in the first half, 35-20, before staging a late rally in the opening 20 minutes. A three-pointer from
Jaquan Carlos keyed a half-closing 8-0 scoring run to make it 35-28 at the break.
KiJan Robinson, who had nine points in the game, drained a three-pointer with 27 seconds left to get the deficit under double digits.
Hofstra added to the run, scoring the first four points of the second stanza to make it a 35-32 game less than 90 seconds into the second half. In total it would be a 12-0 Pride run spanning the halves with
Jacco Fritz and
Tyler Thomas tallying the early second half points.
Campbell retook a five-point lead later in the half, but an 11-2 Pride run put Hofstra in front, 47-43, with 14:02 to play following a three-pointer from Dubar.
Hofstra would extend the lead to five on several occasions as the half progressed, including at 68-63 with 3:58 left after a Thomas layup. That would be the Pride's final points of the game, though, as the Camels scored the game's final six points to win the contest.
Thomas finished with 23 points, five assists, and four rebounds for Hofstra, which also got nine points and five rebounds from Fritz.
Antony Dell'Orso had 29 points and 13 rebounds for Campbell, while Laurynas Vaistaras added 20 points and eight rebounds.
