Fairfield, CT - The duo of
Sarah Pierre and
Emilly Nunes proved to be the difference for the Hofstra volleyball team as the pair combined for 14 kills and nine blocks in leading the Pride to a three-set sweep of Sacred Heart on Tuesday evening at the William H. Pitt Center.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, and 25-16 in favor of the Pride. Hofstra improved to 7-1 with the win, while Sacred Heart fell to 0-5.
Nunes had eight kills and three blocks in the match, while Pierre totaled six kills and six blocks.
Izadora Stedile tied Nunes for team-high honors with eight kills.
Hofstra was stellar defensively, holding Sacred Heart to a .021 hitting percentage for the match, including a negative attack percentage in the second stanza.
The Pride hit .220 for the match, including a high of .344 in the third and final set.
Nil Kayaalp led Hofstra with 12 digs, while Stedile added 10.
Beatriz Alves had 33 assists, five digs, and three blocks for the Pride.
Camryn Luginbuhl posted seven kills and five digs for Sacred Heart.
Hofstra is back in action this weekend when it travels to the Dartmouth Invitational. The Pride will face Stonehill, Seton Hall, and Dartmouth in the two-day tournament.

- Hofstra improved to 4-1 all-time against Sacred Heart. It was the first meeting between the schools since 2014.

Beatriz Alves moved into eighth place all-time in assists at Hofstra with her 33 in the match. She now has 2,404 career assists and passed Beth Parr, who had 2,381 from 1993-96.
- The win was Hofstra's fourth sweep of the season.
