Hempstead, NY -
Izadora Stedile was spectacular for the Pride as she posted a career-high 22 kills, 10 digs, four assists, and three service aces to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Elon in the CAA opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. The win was Hofstra's fifth in a row.
Set scores were 35-33, 25-20, and 25-21 in favor of the Pride, which also got 47 assists, eight digs, six kills, and three service aces from
Beatriz Alves.
Hofstra improved to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win, while Elon dropped to 3-7 and 0-1 in league play.
It is now Hofstra's second win streak of at least five matches this season as the Pride had a six-match win streak from August 25 to September 2. In addition, it is Hofstra's sixth straight home win and 10th consecutive home CAA win.
It was an incredible first set and an incredible comeback by Hofstra to open the match. The Pride trailed 23-19 in the opening stanza before rallying to even the score. The match would go well past the normal 25-point threshold before Hofstra was finally able to earn the 35-33 win. The set featured 22 tie scores and four lead changes.
The momentum from the first set clearly helped Hofstra as the Pride would go on to capture both the second and third sets to earn their sixth sweep of the year. In the final set, the Pride hit at a .517 clip (17-2-29) to put the finishing touches on the win.
Chiara Cucco led Hofstra with 11 digs, while
Clara Bal and
Yagmur Cinel each chipped in with eight kills.
Cameron Lanier had 13 kills and 14 digs for Elon, while Sydney Love added 11 kills.
These same two teams will conclude the weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
