Hofstra Drops Home Contest to Fairfield

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team fell behind early against Fairfield before suffering a 4-0 defeat at home to the Stags on Tuesday afternoon from Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. The loss puts Hofstra's early record at 1-1, while Fairfield opened its 2023 season in the win column.

Fairfield jumped in front at the 10:26 mark of the first quarter, with Konstanze Hofmann maneuvering around the Hofstra defense and letting fly a backhanded shot that bounced off the blocker of Pieke Roos and into the net for the opening tally. On a restart with 7:05 remaining in the quarter, Lucie Vincent charged through the defense and beat Roos with a chipped shot that was batted out of the air and out of the goal by Teresa Karoff, only for Erin McGinley to pounce on the rebound and convert the chance for the Stag goal.

Following scoreless second and third quarters, with Hofstra nearly clawing a goal back when Efremia Geralis' attempt at 5:20 of the third quarter was denied by a diving Payton Rahn, the Stags put a third in the net minutes into the start of the fourth quarter when Vincent forced a Hofstra turnover and fed Alex Senior for a three-on-one situation, and Senior dribbled past the charging Roos and scored on the open net. The visitors added a fourth just minutes later when Vincent blasted a penalty corner shot past Roos.

Jamie Mc Millan led the team with four shots on the day, while Geralis, Simryn Desai, Tara McNally, and Jaime Lewis all had shots on target. In goal, Roos made two saves for the Pride and Karoff tallied a defensive save.

Vincent had a goal and an assist for the visiting Stags, and Rahn made four saves in the win.

Hofstra returns to action on Friday at 3 p.m. with a home contest against Wagner.
