Hofstra Drops 1-0 Decision At FDU

Teaneck, NJ - Tony Gomez capitalized on a defensive miscue by the Pride in the 73rd minute as FDU posted a 1-0 victory Monday night at University Stadium. The loss was Hofstra's first of the season after opening 2023 with a victory. FDU moved to 2-0 on the season in winning its home opener.

Hofstra turned the ball over in the defensive end as a back pass eluded several Pride players to the feet of Gomez. The FDU player dribbled towards goal and as he entered the box, a Hofstra defender slipped and fell to allow a clear shot at goal that was true.

Hofstra, which had several chances before and after the goal, could not get on the board. The Pride had a scoring attempt that hit the crossbar and had a chance at the equalizer on a corner kick that went through to the far post. A Pride player headed it back towards the center of the goal but it bounced off the head of a teammate and out of bounds for a goal kick.

Spencer King made four saves in goal for the Knights, while Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel had one save.

Hofstra will return to action Friday at Providence with a 7 p.m. game time.

Notes:

-The Pride held a 13-5 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
-The one-goal loss was just the third in games decided by a single goal in the last 21 instances (18-3).
