Hofstra Travels To Rutgers For Sunday Night Meeting

8/19/2023 7:15:00 AM

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University women's soccer team returns to action Sunday night at Rutgers University looking to even its record following a season-opening loss at UAlbany Thursday night. Kickoff from Yurcak Field in Piscataway, New Jersey is set for 7 p.m.

The game will be streamed on the Big10+ Network with live statistics also available. Links for both can be found on the women's soccer schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra is coming off a 2-1 loss at UAlbany. The Pride scored in the opening minute on a penalty kick from Aimee Hodgson but allowed two second half goals to the Great Danes to drop the season opener for the first time in six seasons. Mackenzie Sullivan made her first career start in goal and made five saves.

Rutgers, which is receiving votes in the preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, opened the 2023 season with a 2-0 win at home over Holy Cross. The Scarlet Knights held the Crusaders to just two shots.

This will mark the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs with Rutgers holding a 4-0 series lead. The team last met September 5, 2019, with Rutgers taking a 4-1 victory.

Following Sunday's game, Hofstra will return to action Friday (August 25) at Columbia for a 2 p.m. start.
