Hofstra Dominates Monmouth In 19-2 Win, Completes Series Sweep

West Long Branch, NJ - Steve Harrington went 6-7 with five RBIs as Hofstra pounded out a season-high 21 hits and scored a season-best 19 runs in a dominant 19-2 victory at Monmouth Sunday afternoon. The win completed a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series sweep for the Pride and kept the team in the chase for a spot in the CAA Championship with two weeks left in the regular season.
 
Hofstra evened its record at 23-23 overall and 13-13 in the CAA. Monmouth is 15-25 overall and 5-17 in league play.
 
The Pride once again wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, sending eight men to the plate in a three-run first inning. Harrington had an RBI double and Ryan Morash delivered a two-run single. Morash would finish the day with three hits and five RBIs as well. 
 
Hofstra would add a run in the third on an RBI fielder's choice by Morash and then extended the advantage to 7-1 with three runs in the top of the fifth. Anthony D'Onofrio doubled in two runs and Zach Bailey had an RBI single.
 
Monmouth made it a 7-2 game in the bottom of the fifth before the Pride tacked on four more runs in the sixth on two-run singles from Harrington and Morash. Harrington would contribute another RBI single in the seventh, while Bailey knocked in a run with a bases-loaded hit by pitch. 
 
The Pride would close out the game with a six-run ninth as Frankie DiMartino had a pinch-hit two-RBI double, Michael Florides drove in a run, Dom Camera had his first RBI, and Harrington collected his sixth hit of the day with an RBI double to cap the scoring. 
 
Tristan Nemjo (3-1) started for the Pride and went six strong innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts. Mike McKenna followed with two scoreless frames, while Cade Henry and Michael O'Hanlon each threw one scoreless frame. 
 
For the second game in a row, eight of Hofstra's nine starters had hits in the game. Dylan Palmer, Kevin Bruggeman, Nick Marrero, and D'Onofrio each had two hits on the day. 
 
Monmouth's Drew Helmstetter (1-3) started and took the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits in 4 ⅔ innings. Austin Denlinger had three hits for the Hawks. 
 
Hofstra returns to action Wednesday night at No. 9 Connecticut with a 7 p.m. start time.
 
Notes:
-Hofstra bettered its previous mark of 17 runs against St. John's and 18 hits versus Towson in the win. 
-Three of Harrington's six hits were doubles.
-Hofstra outscored Monmouth, 35-4, in the series and outhit the Hawks, 46-9. 
-The series sweep was the third of the season for the Pride and second in CAA play.
-The six hits were the most by a Pride player since Rob Weissheier had six against Towson on April 24, 2021.
