McDonnell Closes Out Season for Hofstra at NCAA East First Round

| By:
Jacksonville, FL – Hofstra women's outdoor track distance runner Jordyn McDonnell became Hofstra's first women's outdoor track runner in program history to compete in an NCAA event when she ran in the 3000m Steeplechase at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East First Round from Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

A senior from Lake Ronkonkoma, New York, McDonnell crossed the finish line of the race with a time of 10:35.77, placing her 31st overall in the event and 10th in her heat. The top three in each heat automatically qualify, followed by the three next-fastest times in the entire event. McDonnell finished 0.37 seconds ahead of West Virginia's Katherine Dowie, and she was 1.02 seconds behind Alyssa Skorge of Indiana.

McDonnell finished nine spots above her pre-race seed of 40. She was the first Hofstra runner in the history of Hofstra's cross country and track programs to qualify for an NCAA Championship event when she qualified for the NCAA East First Round, and she was just the seventh Hofstra cross country or track runner across the men's and women's rosters to qualify for an NCAA Championship event.
