Bethpage, NY - Sophia Briggs placed 19th to lead the Hofstra University women's cross country team as the Pride finished sixth at the season-opening Adelphi Panther Cross Country Invitational at Bethpage State Park Friday afternoon.

Briggs completed the 6K course in a personal-best time of 23:24 for the top-20 finish in the 120-runner field. Avery Brawner was Hofstra's next-best finisher, placing 31st (23:54). Hannah Donzella finished 35th with a time of 24:01, while Natalie Campisi was 44th (25:16) and Macy Neider was 46th (25:33). 

The Pride recorded 166 points in its sixth-place finish out of 17 teams. Cornell won the event with 33 points, while Monmouth was second with 67. Iona (78), Bryant (82), and Central Connecticut State (123) rounded out the top five. 

The Pride return to action October 2 at the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational.
