Hofstra Scores 20 In Win Over UMass Lowell

Lowell, MA - Hofstra scored in seven of nine innings including each of the first six as the Pride routed UMass Lowell Saturday evening, 20-4, at LeLacheur Park. The 20 runs are a season high and the most scored by the Pride in Coach Frank Catalanotto's tenure with the team. 

The Pride improved to 25-24 on the season with the win, while the River Hawks slipped to 17-30. 

Hofstra scored three runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and five in the sixth to build an 18-2 lead. Ryan Morash, who had five hits and five RBIs, and Kevin Bruggeman, who had two hits and six RBIs, drove in runs in each of the first three innings. Bruggeman also had an RBI in the fourth. 

Every Pride starter had at least one hit with Santino Rosso (4), Dylan Palmer (2), Anthony D'Onofrio (2), Sammy Burman (2), and Zach Bailey (2) collecting multi-hit games. 

Mark Faello (6-6) went five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits to get the win. Relievers Cade Henry, Brian Hart, Sean Hamilton, and Garrett Sullivan each threw an inning to close out the game. 

Joshua Becker (4-3) started and took the loss for the River Hawks after allowing five runs on six hits in two innings of work. Seven UMass Lowell errors led to five unearned runs for the Pride. Trey Brown went 3-4 with two RBIs for the River Hawks. 

Hofstra will look for the series sweep Sunday with a 12 p.m. first pitch. 

Notes:
-The five-hit game was the first of Morash's career and the five RBIs tied his career best.
-The 20 runs were the most since the Pride scored 27 against Sacred Heart on March 13, 2021.
-Bruggeman's six RBIs are a career-high.
-Steve Harrington extended his on-base streak to 41 games.
-Bruggeman has a 13-game hitting streak. 
-In addition to his four hits, Rosso also drove in three runs and scored three times.
-Palmer scored four times and Michael Florides crossed the plate three times.
-Hofstra is 4-1 all-time versus UMass Lowell.
