Hofstra Wins Series Opener At UMass Lowell To Give Coach Catalanotto 100th Career Victory

Lowell, MA - Steve Harrington had three hits and drove in four runs, while Dylan Palmer had a four-hit game to go along with a pair of runs as Hofstra defeated Massachusetts Lowell, 10-4, Friday night in the opening game of a three-game series at LeLacheur Park  Brad Camarda went six innings to earn the win for the Pride. 

Hofstra evened its record at 24-24 with the victory, while the River Hawks are 17-29. 

The teams traded first inning runs before the Pride took the lead for good in the second inning on an RBI single from Palmer. Hofstra would pull away with four runs in the fourth inning as Kevin Buggeman had a sacrifice fly, Harington a two-run single, and Sammy Burman an RBI double. 

The Pride would tack on two more runs in the fifth on another two-RBI single from Harrington. UMASS Lowell scored three runs in the fifth with two coming in on Fritz Genther's double. Hofstra would add runs in the seventh and eighth innings on RBIs from Bruggeman and Anthony D'Onofrio.

Bruggeman and Michael Florides each had a pair of hits on the night for the Pride, which recorded 11 hits in the game. It was the fourth consecutive game that Hofstra recorded a double-figure hit total. 

Camarda moved to 6-2 on the season after allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts. 

The River Hawks got two hits from Genther, Jacob Humphrey, and Brandon Fish. Matt Draper (3-7) took the loss for UMASS Lowell, allowing six runs on six hits in 3 ⅓ innings of work. 

The teams continue their series Saturday at 4 p.m.

Notes:
-The victory was the 100th career win for second year Hofstra Head Coach Frank Catalanotto, who has 54 wins at Hofstra and had 46 at New York Tech. 
-Hofstra is 3-1 all-time against the River Hawks.
-Steven Kaenzig (2 ⅓) and Penn Sealey (⅔) combined to hold the River Hawks scoreless over the final three innings.
