Hempstead, NY - The emotion of senior day helped the Hofstra men's lacrosse team jump out to a 4-0 lead, but Towson would rally and eventually earn a narrow 10-8 victory over the Pride on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Prior to the game, the program honored its 10 seniors (
Sterlyn Ardrey,
Danny DeSanti,
Matt Elder,
Tom Ford,
Mac Gates,
Tim Hegarty,
Corey Kale,
Daniel Ochs,
Dalton Seesz, and
Ryan Sheridan).
Hofstra fell to 3-8 and 1-3 in conference play with the loss. Towson improved to 3-7 and 2-2 in Colonial Athletic Association action.
An unlikely goal scorer would get the Pride on the board to start as
Dalton Seesz tallied his second career goal on his senior day to kick-start the early 4-0 Pride run that culminated with a tally from
Ryan Sheridan with 8:05 left in the first quarter. It was a wild first quarter, though, as Towson immediately answered with four goals of their own and the contest headed to the second quarter tied at four.
The second quarter would only see a single goal by both teams and the game headed to the second half knotted at five.
Towson scored just five seconds into the third quarter to take the early lead before back-to-back goals from
Gerard Kane and
John Recher made it a 7-6 Pride advantage with 2:32 left in the third stanza. The incredible back-and-forth affair would see Towson tie the score once again as the game saw each team with seven goals heading into the final 15 minutes.
Trailing by one,
Griffin Turner would score an unassisted tally with 12:02 left in the fourth to even the score at eight. That would be the Pride's final goal, though, as Ryan Schrier scored the eventual game-winner with 8:56 left to give the Tigers the victory.
Matt Elder had two goals for Hofstra, which saw nine different players tally points. Turner and Sheridan added a goal and an assist for the Pride.
Daniel Ochs had a career-high four caused turnovers, while
Tom Ford had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Nick DeMaio had six assists for Towson, which got three goals from Schrier.
Mac Gates had nine saves for the Pride and Evan Long tallied 20 saves for the Tigers.
Hofstra will head to Drexel next Saturday for an 11 a.m. game.
