Hampton, VA -
Colton Rudd led a balanced attack with five points on a goal and four assists to lead the Hofstra men's lacrosse team to a dominating 15-4 win over Hampton on Saturday afternoon at Armstrong Stadium. The assist and point totals for Rudd were both career-highs and he led the way as 13 different members of the Pride got in the scoring column.
Hofstra evened its Colonial Athletic Association record at 3-3 and moved to 5-8 overall with the win. Hampton dropped to 2-11 and 0-6 in the league.
Hofstra scored four of the five goals in the opening 15 minutes to jump out to the commanding lead.
Sterlyn Ardrey was the key contributor as he tallied two first quarter goals to lead the early charge. Goals from
Matt Elder and Rudd early in the second quarter allowed the Pride to extend the lead to 6-1 and the rout was on. A 3-0 run spanning the first and second half, that culminated with an unassisted tally from
Ryan Woodland, would push the lead to 9-2 with 13:50 left in the third quarter. Back-to-back goals from
John Veit in the fourth quarter gave Hofstra a double digit advantage and the Pride would finish off the road win by capturing the 11-goal victory.
Matt Vilas posted two ground balls, the first of his career, and two caused turnovers in the game.
