Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra men's lacrosse gave it everything they had in the final minutes, scoring four times over the final 11 minutes, but were unable to knot the score as they dropped an 11-10 decision to Stony Brook on Saturday evening at James M. Shuart Stadium.
The Pride trailed 11-6 with 12:50 left after the Seawolves final goal of the game before
Rory Jones started a 4-0 Hofstra run that made it 11-10 with 3:21 left on another Jones goal.
Hofstra ends its season with a record of 5-9 and 3-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Stony Brook improved to 8-6 and 5-2 in the conference.
It was 2-2 after the first quarter and 4-4 at halftime as the tightly-contested game saw neither team able to pull away early on. Hofstra got a goal from
Ryan Sheridan with 3:07 left before the intermission but Stony Brook got the equalizer with 1:40 left on the second quarter clock.
The Seawolves opened the second half with a 6-1 run that put them ahead 10-5 with 14:01 left in regulation.
Matt Elder would bring the Pride within four, 10-6 before SBU extended the lead back to five with 12:50 remaining. Hofstra gave it everything they had down the stretch as Jones was followed by
Gerard Kane and
Ryan Woodland before Jones made it 11-10 with 3:21 left. The Pride had one last opportunity in a man-up situation but a shot from
John Madsen was saved with 1:43 left to preserve the win for the visitors.
Kane and Jones each had two goals and one assist in the game, while Elder added a pair of goals.
Mac Gates had nine saves in net.
Chase Patterson was tremendous throughout the game as he won 19-25 face-offs, picked up 10 ground balls, and scored a goal.
Matt Anderson had five points on four goals and one assist for Stony Brook, while Blake Behlen tallied four assists.

- Hofstra is 7-6 all-time against Stony Brook.
- Patterson's first career goal and fourth career point came in his 43rd career game.
- Elder scored two or more goals in six straight games to end the season and seven times this year. Kane had multiple goals in a game for the sixth time and Jones had two or more goals for the seventh time.
