Hofstra Falls In Both Ends Of Twinbill At Northeastern

Brookline, MA - Hofstra dropped a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader to Northeastern Saturday at Friedman Diamond as the Huskies completed a three-game sweep of the Pride. Game scores were 14-5 in game one and 8-1 in game two.

Hofstra dropped to 17-22 overall and 9-12 in the CAA with the losses. Northeastern is 32-7 overall and 13-5 in league play. 

The Pride took a 1-0 lead in the opener on an RBI single from Santino Rosso. The Huskies would strike for four runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Hofstra scored single runs in the second and third to make it a one-run game and would trail 5-4 after the top of the sixth. However, Northeastern would score six times in the bottom of the frame to break open the game. Tyler MacGregor had a two-run double in the inning and Alex Lane added a two-run home run. 

Tristan Nemjo (2-1) took the loss for the Pride, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 5 ⅓ innings. Eric Yost (4-0) picked up the win for Northeastern after allowing four runs on 11 hits over six innings. 

In game two, Northeastern scored in five of the first six innings to grab a 7-0 lead. Zach Bailey put Hofstra on the board with a solo home run in the eighth and had two of the Pride's five hits. Brad Camarda (4-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits over 6 ⅓ innings. Penn Sealy went the final 1 ⅔ innings and allowed one run. The long ball was an issue for Hofstra pitching as the Huskies hit five home runs in the game and eight on the day. 

Jake Gigliotti (7-0) picked up the win with six innings of two-hit, no-run ball and eight strikeouts. Patrick Harrington went the final three innings and picked up a save. Cam Maldonado had two of the Northeastern home runs in the game. 

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday with a 1 p.m. game at LIU. 

Notes:
-Hofstra had 15 hits in game one and left 12 runners on base.
-Kevin Bruggeman had a solo home run in game one.  
-Michael Florides extended his hitting streak to nine games with hits in both ends of the doubleheader.
