Hofstra Drops Series Opener At Northeastern

Brookline, MA - Jake Liberatore and Zach Bailey each had a pair of hits, and Steve Harrington drove in the Pride's only run in a 6-1 loss to Northeastern Friday at Friedman Diamond in the opening game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series. The loss snapped Hofstra's seven-game winning streak.

Hofstra slipped to 17-20 on the season overall and 9-10 in CAA play with the loss. The Huskies moved to 30-7 overall and 11-5 in league play.

The Huskies would score all they would need in the third inning as Mike Sirota followed a walk to Luke Beckstein by taking the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to put the Huskies on the board. Northeastern added three more runs in the fourth inning, stringing four hits and a walk together after two outs. Beckstein had a two-run single and Danny Crossen added an RBI base hit. The Huskies closed out their scoring in the seventh, loading the bases on a hit batter and two walks before Spenser Smith drove in a run on a fielder's choice.

Hofstra broke up the shutout in the eighth as Brian Morrell and Kevin Bruggeman walked, and Harrington followed with a double to the fence in left center to send Morrell home.

Cade Henry (1-6) took the loss for Hofstra after allowing five runs on eight hits over five-plus innings. Sean Hamilton went the final three innings and allowed a run on no hits.

Aiven Cabral (5-3) scattered seven hits over seven scoreless innings for the Huskies to earn the win. Beckstein had two of Northeastern's eight hits.

The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. due to rain in the forecast for Sunday.

Notes:
-Hamilton matched his season-high with three innings of work.
-Harrington extended his on-base streak to 30 games.
-Michael Florides and Jake Liberatore extended their hitting streaks to seven games each.
