Hofstra Pulls Away From Iona; Extends Win Streak To Six

Hempstead, NY - Santino Rosso had four hits to pace a 16-hit Hofstra offense as the Pride pulled away from Iona for an 8-3 victory Tuesday at University Field. Hofstra scored five runs over its final three at-bats to break a 3-3 tie and win for the sixth consecutive game.

The Pride moved to 16-19 on the season with the victory, while Iona dipped to 7-26.

Hofstra took a 2-0 lead following single runs in the second and third innings. Rosso tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the second and then had an RBI single in the third inning. Iona tied the score in the fourth inning with a pair of runs. Josiah Ragsadle had an RBI single and the second run scored on a wild pitch.

The Pride took a one-run lead in the fifth as Kevin Bruggeman reached on an error and came in to score on a single from Rosso. The lead only lasted until Iona's next at-bat as Jim Pasquale tied the game with a solo home run to right field.

Bruggeman would give Hofstra the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single up the middle that drove in Jake Liberatore, who had reached on an error. The Pride tacked on two runs in the seventh on an RBI single from Michael Florides and an RBI double from Dylan Palmer to make it a 6-3 game. Bruggeman launched a solo home run in the eighth and Liberatore later drew a bases-loaded walk to close out the scoring.

Danny Kelleher (2-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing a run on three hits over two innings of work. Bruggeman had three hits on the day as well as a pair of RBIs and runs scored.
