Elon, NC - Led by a career-high six points (3G, 3A) from
Megan Flannery, and hat tricks from four players, the Hofstra women's lacrosse team scored early and often in a 17-12 win over Elon on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field.
In addition to Flannery, Hofstra also got hat tricks from
Rachel Graff (4G),
Taylor Mennella (3G, 1A), and
Lauren Coletti (3G).
The Pride picked up its first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season and improved to 4-10 and 1-4 in the league. Elon fell to 4-10 and 0-5 in the CAA.
Hofstra would take its first lead of the game late in the first quarter as Mennella scored off a feed from Flannery to make it 3-2 Pride with 2:24 showing on the clock. After Elon tied the score, Flannery would put the Pride ahead at the end of the quarter as she scored with 11 seconds remaining in the opening stanza. A goal from
Katie Kelly pushed the lead to 6-4 in the second quarter but Elon battled back and evened it at six with less than three minutes left before halftime. Hofstra was able to take the lead into the break, though, as Mennella scored an unassisted tally with 1:24 remaining for the one-goal advantage.
The third quarter saw the two squads combined for ten goals with Hofstra expanding its lead by scoring six of them. Hofstra scored three of the first four in the quarter to open up a 10-7 lead following a Flannery goal with 6:14 left. A goal from Mennella pushed it to a 12-8 lead and Hofstra held a three-goal lead heading into the final 15 minutes. Goals from Graff and
Kate Fiola in the first two-plus minutes of the fourth quarter pushed the lead to a commanding five goals, 15-10, and the Pride would never look back in capturing the road win.
Led by Kelly (8) and
Courtney Carollo (8), Hofstra held a 17-13 advantage in draw controls in the game. Kelly finished with four points on two goals and two assists, while
Kerry Walser had a goal and a career-high three assists.
Hannah McCarthy led Elon with six points on four goals and two assists, while Cierra Hopson added four goals for the Phoenix.
Hofstra is back in action next Saturday for its final home game of the regular season when it hosts Drexel at 12 p.m.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 4-3 all-time against Elon. The Pride has won three straight against the Phoenix dating back to the 2019 campaign.
- The hat trick was the first of the career for Flannery, the fifth this season with Hofstra for Graff, the second of the career and first this season for Coletti, and the fourth this season and 12th of the career for Mennella.
- The six points are a new career-high for Flannery as she previously had two on several occasions.
- Walser had a career-high three assists in the game. She previously had two on a pair of occasions, most recently versus Long Island on February 11, 2023.
- Graff tied her career-high in goals, set against Monmouth on April 1 of this season.

Luchianna Cardello tallied nine saves and a career-high tying four ground balls in the game. She previously had four at William & Mary on March 18.
