Hofstra Gets Past Towson, Posts Series Win

Hempstead, NY - Santino Rosso had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs and Tristan Nemjo and Mark Faello combined to hold the Tigers to nine hits as the Pride picked up a 7-4 Colonial Athletic Association victory Saturday at University Field. The win, Hofstra's fourth in a row, gave the Pride the series win with one game remaining on Sunday.

Hofstra moved to 14-19 overall and 8-9 in the CAA with the win, while Towson dipped to 10-25 overall and 2-12 in the CAA.

After Nemjo and Towson starter Brett Seils traded zeros over the first three innings, the Tigers got on the board in the fourth as Casey Bishop doubled, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Bryce Frederick. Hofstra answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs, two coming courtesy of Rosso's first home run of the season.

The Tigers would retake the lead in the fifth, scoring three times. Jeremy Wagner had an RBI double and Jordan Peyton followed with a two-run home run to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.

Hofstra would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as Zach Bailey led off with a single and went to second on a wild pitch. The Tigers made an error on a sacrifice bunt to put runners on the corners for Dylan Palmer. The Hofstra freshman came through with a single through the right side to drive in Bailey with the tying run. Following a fly out that saw Michael Florides tag up and go to third, Steve Harrington drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly.

Florides would drive in a run in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly of his own and Rosso added an RBI single in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Nemjo (2-0) allowed four runs on five hits over 5 ⅔ innings. He struck out a career-best eight in his longest outing of the season. Faello went the final 3 ⅓ innings and allowed four hits to notch his first save of the season.

Wagner led Towson with three hits. Reliever Shane Clower (0-4) took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in ⅔ of an inning.

The teams wrap up the series Sunday at 12 p.m.
