San Francisco, CA/Stanford, CA/Queens, NY – The Hofstra women's outdoor track team opened its 2023 season on opposite sides of the country, sending competitors to the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in California and The Big Hurt in New York.
Jordyn McDonnell and
Sophia Masciarelli represented the Pride on the West Coast, with McDonnell running at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, and Masciarelli competing in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, both setting program records on the track. Masciarelli set a new standard in the 10,000m with an eighth-place time of 37:00.13, and McDonnell crushed the previous school record time in the 3000m Steeplechase with a mark of 10:28.46 in an 11
th-place finish.
At The Big Hurt in Queens, New York, Hofstra had a number of student-athletes competing in the running and track events.
Morgan Luke ran a time of 13.50 to place eighth in the 100m dash, while
April Ivan finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 7.87m/25' 10", and the 4x100m relay team of
Deandra Baker,
Rachel Lande,
Lauren Dietrich, and Lianne Emanuel finished second with a time of 56.27.
The Hofstra women will be competing again on April 8 at the Metropolitan Championships at iconic Icahn Stadium in New York, New York.
