Pride Routs Hawks For First CAA Win

West Long Branch, NJ - Gerard Kane had a career-high tying four goals and Matt Elder added a pair of tallies to lead the Hofstra men's lacrosse team to a 12-6 road win over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.

Mac Gates added a season-high tying 15 saves in net for the Pride. Kane also added an assist to give him five points in the game.

The win ends a four-game losing skid for Hofstra, which improved to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Monmouth fell to 4-5 and 0-3 in the league with the loss.

Elder opened the scoring in the game with an unassisted tally at the 12:33 mark of the first quarter. After Monmouth evened the score just under two minutes later, the Pride would score four straight goals spanning the quarters to lead 5-1 with 52 seconds left before halftime. Elder added his second of the game during the run and Kane notched a pair of goals to allow Hofstra to take the four-goal advantage.

The Hawks scored twice in the opening minutes of the third quarter to close the gap to two at 5-3. In a torrential downpour, Hofstra would rain down goals as the Pride scored the final four goals of the quarter to hold a 9-3 lead after 45 minutes of play.

A 3-0 run Hofstra run in the fourth quarter would remove any doubt of the outcome as the Pride opened up an eight-goal advantage before leaving New Jersey with the six-goal win.

Colton Rudd had four points on two goals and two assists for Hofstra, while Trevor Natalie and Ryan Sheridan each tallied a goal and an assist.

Hofstra was nearly perfect on clears in the game, going 21-22, and also had 31 ground balls in the game to the Hawks 26.

Matt Karsian and Connor Macrae each had two goals for Monmouth, while Cade Stratton tallied a goal and an assist.

Hofstra is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Towson at 3 p.m. For ticket information visit HofstraTickets.com.
