Hofstra Leaves No Doubt In CAA Quarterfinal Victory Over William & Mary; 12th Win In A Row

Washington, DC - Redshirt senior guard Aaron Estrada had 22 points and a career-high tying 10 rebounds, while fellow redshirt senior guard Tyler Thomas also scored 22 points to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to unbelievable 94-46 win over William & Mary in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. The win was Hofstra's 12th in a row.

Sophomore guard Jaquan Carlos was impressive as well with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the game.

Hofstra established a pair of impressive records in the game as the halftime lead of 37 is the largest in CAA Championship history and the 48-point margin of victory is the biggest in tournament history. The halftime margin broke the previous mark of 25 (39-14) set by Towson against Drexel in 2009 and the game margin broke Monmouth's record of 36 (100-64) set on Wednesday in the first round against Hampton.

Hofstra improved to 24-8 with the win. The 12-game win streak now ranks as the fifth-longest in program history. It is one of six streaks of 12 or more games, currently tied with the 1955-56 squad that also won 12 consecutive games. It is the longest win streak since a 16-game streak during the 2018-19 campaign. Heading into today, the win streak ranked as the fifth-longest current streak in NCAA Division I.

William & Mary fell to 13-20 with the loss. Hofstra held the Tribe to only 46 points in the contest. The Pride is now 101-19 over the past nine seasons, and 16-2 this year, when holding its opponent under 70 points. In addition, Hofstra is 49-1, and has won 44 consecutive games, when holding its opponent under 60 points.

The game was over from the start as Hofstra scored the first five points of the contest and 18 of the first 20 to lead 18-2 just over five minutes into the contest. Sophomore guards Darlinstone Dubar and Jaquan Carlos keyed the early run as Dubar had six and Carlos had five in the first few minutes. Hofstra would not let up and a 13-0 scoring run midway through the half pushed the lead to an incredible 30 points, 36-6, with 6:09 showing on the clock. The lead grew to 37 in the final two minutes of the half as graduate student guard Bryce Washington hit a three-pointer and Estrada closed the first half with a bucket to make it 51-14.

It was more of the same in the second stanza as an Estrada three-pointer grew the lead to 40, 54-14, just 32 seconds into the half. The lead hovered around 40 for most of the second half until Hofstra used a 12-0 scoring run to open up a mind-blowing 51-point point lead, 86-35, with 5:50 remaining.

Dubar finished with nine points and four rebounds for the Pride, which also got nine points and six rebounds from Washington. Hofstra shot 59.4% from the field for the game and a stunning 61.9% from three-point range.

Anders Nelson led William & Mary with 15 points, while Ben Wight and Chris Mullins each had nine points and six rebounds.

Hofstra will move on to the semifinals on Monday at 6 p.m. The Pride will face the winner of the Drexel/UNCW contest. That contest will air nationally on the CBS Sports Network and WRHU (88.7 FM) will carry the game as well.
