RENO, Nevada – On a snowy Saturday in Nevada, Hofstra scored four runs with two outs in the final inning, but the rally fell short as Nevada defeated the Pride in the third game of the four-game series, 6-5.
After a scoreless first two innings, Hofstra broke through with one run in the top of the third as
Brian Morrell delivered a base hit to right field, scoring
Ryan Morash who legged out an infield single to start the inning. Nevada then responded with one run in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the seventh to take a 6-1 lead over the Pride.
A
Kevin Bruggeman walk,
Santino Rosso base hit and
Zach Bailey walk loaded the bases to start off the ninth before a wild pitch and error allowed scored two Hofstra runs. Morash then delivered a two-out, two-RBI single to right to bring it within one, but after a single by Liberatore and a Nevada pitching change, the Wolfpack escaped the inning and took the 6-5 ballgame.
Hofstra received multiple-hit days from Morash and Morrell who each went 2-for-5 at the plate.
John Mikolaicyk started on the mound and worked six innings, striking out six batters while walking just one.
The four-game series between Hofstra and Nevada concludes tomorrow (Sunday) with first pitch set for 12:05 p.m. (PST).
