Bruggeman, Camarda Shine As Hofstra Downs North Carolina A&T In Series Finale

East Greensboro, NC - Kevin Bruggeman had two doubles and three RBIs, and Brad Camarda threw seven strong innings as Hofstra picked up a 5-3 Colonial Athletic Association win over North Carolina A&T at War Memorial Park Sunday afternoon. The win salvaged the final game of a three-game series.

Hofstra improves to 8-15 overall and 3-6 in CAA play. The Aggies see their record even at 12-12 overall and go to 5-4 in league play.

Bruggeman put Hofstra up in the second inning with a double that brought in Brian Morrell, who had reached on an error. Steve Harrington followed with a run-scoring single that drove home Bruggeman to make it 2-0. Bruggeman, Hofstra's senior catcher, struck again in the third with a two-run double that extended the Pride's lead to 4-0.

Hofstra tacked on another run in the fifth as Morrell lofted a sacrifice fly to right center to allow Dylan Palmer, who walked and went to third on a Santino Rosso single, to score. That was more than enough for Camarda, who allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts to move to 1-1 on the season. Michael O'Hanlon pitched the final two innings to earn his fourth save.

North Carolina A&T's Camden Jackson was the Aggies offensive leader with a pair of triples and an RBI. Starter Jaheim Brown (1-2) took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits over five innings of work.

Hofstra will be back in action Friday when it hosts Stony Brook in the opener of a Colonial Athletic Association series. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
