Elder Scores Career-High Four For Hofstra

Hempstead, NY - Matt Elder scored a career-best four goals for the Hofstra men's lacrosse team in the Pride's 15-7 loss to Delaware on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

Colton Rudd added a pair of goals for Hofstra, which dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play with the loss. Delaware upped its record to 6-3 and 2-0 in the conference.

Elder scored the first two goals of the game, his sixth and seventh of the season, to give the Pride the early 2-0 advantage more than seven minutes into the game. Delaware would score three straight goals spanning the quarters to take its first lead of the game before Elder completed the hat trick with 7:31 left in the second quarter to even the score at three. The Blue Hens would take control at that point, though, as the visitors scored six straight goals to lead 9-3 with 7:48 left in the third quarter. The run started with 2:52 left in the first half with three goals in each half.

A goal from Rudd ended the run and Rudd would add another to open the scoring in the fourth quarter that made it 10-5 with 12:24 remaining. Hofstra would be unable to get closer the five the rest of the way with goals from Trevor Natalie and Elder accounting for the Pride's final tallies of the game.

Chase Patterson was strong on face-offs again for Hofstra, winning 16 of 25. Mac Gates made nine saves in net for the Pride. John Recher led Hofstra with four ground balls and Danny Desanti had a team-high two caused turnovers.

Clay Miller had three goals for Delaware, which got a team-high four points (1G, 3A) from JP Ward. Owen Grant posted two goals, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers for the Blue Hens.

Hofstra is next in action on Saturday, April 1, when it travels to Monmouth for an 11 a.m. game.

NOTES
- Hofstra is 32-16 all-time against Delaware.
- Elder's previous career-high of three goals came against Navy last November. The hat trick was the second of his career.
- Patterson has won at least 50% of the face-offs in three straight games and in five of the last six games.
