Hofstra Tripped Up By North Carolina A&T In Series Opener

East Greensboro, NC - North Carolina A&T rallied from a 5-2 deficit to post a 9-5 victory over Hofstra Friday night in a Colonial Athletic Association game at War Memorial Stadium. The Aggies scored twice in the fourth inning and twice more in the fifth to take the lead for good.

Hofstra (7-14, 2-5 CAA) took a 2-0 lead following a solo home run from Brian Morrell in the second inning and an RBI double from Will Kennedy in the third. Cort Maynard tied the score in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run. 

The Pride scored three times in the fourth to open a 5-2 lead. Michael Florides had an RBI single to plate Santino Rosso and Dylan Palmer followed with a two-run double to make it 5-2.

Tre Williams hit a two-run home run in the fourth for the Aggies to make it a 5-4 game. North Carolina A&T went ahead for good in the fifth with Maynard driving in a run on a fielder's choice grounder and Williams doubling in the go-ahead run. The home team would tack on three more runs in the eighth with TJ Ash driving in two with a double and Sabin Roane adding an RBI bunt single. 

Mark Faello (1-5) started and took the loss for the Pride, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits over 5 â…“ innings. Tristan Nemjo went the final 2 â…” and allowed three runs on five hits. Kennedy finished with three hits for the Pride, while Palmer and Florides had two hits.

Coley Kilpatrick (2-3) got the win for the Aggies, allowing all five runs on 11 hits over six innings. Ethan Snyder went the final three innings and allowed one hit to earn his first save. Williams had three hits and three RBIs, while Maynard had two hits and three RBIs. 

The teams continue the series Saturday at 3 p.m.

Notes:
-This was the first meeting between Hofstra and North Carolina A&T
-Kennedy extended his on-base streak to 18 games. 
-Morrell's home run was his first of the season.
