Hofstra Falls In Series Finale At Delaware

Newark, DE - Delaware jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings and went on to a 19-9 victory over Hofstra in the rubber game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at Bob Hannah Stadium. The win gave the Blue Hens a 2-1 series victory over the Pride. 

Hofstra dropped to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in the CAA. Delaware improved to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the CAA. 

Freshman Dylan Palmer had another good game for the Pride with four hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. Santino Rosso had three hits, a run and an RBI, while Anthony D'Onofrio and Will Kennedy each had two hits. One of D'Onofrio's hits was a solo home run.

Delaware scored the first four runs of the game and, after the Pride got on the board with one in the third, added five more runs in the bottom of the inning to pull away. The Pride did make it close with four runs in the fifth on RBI hits from Steve Harrington, Rosso, D'Onofrio, and Palmer to pull within three, 9-6. 

However, Delaware answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning  and scored six more times over their final three turns at bat. 

Dan Covino had two home runs for Delaware, while JJ Freeman doubled, homered and knocked in five runs. 

Hofstra will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Saint Peter's at 3 p.m. 

Notes:
-Palmer had multiple hits in all three games of the series.
-Freshman Sammy Burman notched his first career hit, an RBI double.
-John Mikolaicyk started and took the loss for Hofstra.
-D'Onofrio's home run was his first of the season. 
-Rosso went over 100 hits for his career and now has 102.
