Hofstra Splits Doubleheader At Delaware

Newark, DE - Mark Faello, Tristan Nemjo, and Michael O'Hanlon limited Delaware to three runs and eight hits, and Dylan Palmer had three hits and two runs scored as Hofstra posted a 6-3 victory in game two of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader at Bob Hannah Stadium Saturday night. The Blue Hens won the opener, 18-7. 

Hofstra moved to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in the CAA with the split. Delaware is 5-9 overall and 1-1 in league action. The game two win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Pride.

Faello (1-2) went 5 ⅓ innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Nemjo was brilliant over his 2 ⅔ innings of work, allowing one walk with two strikeouts. O'Hanlon came on in the ninth and allowed a hit and a walk with a pair of strikeouts to notch his first save of the season.

Palmer snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth with an RBI infield single that scored Santino Rosso. The Pride added two more runs in the fifth to go ahead, 5-2. Ryan Morash had an RBI double and Rosso scored on an error. Hofstra scored its sixth run in the sixth on another Delaware error with Palmer coming in on the play.

In addition to Palmer's three hits, Hofstra got three hits, an RBI, and a stolen base from Morash, two hits and two RBIs from Kevin Bruggeman, and two hits and two stolen bases from Will Kennedy.

In the opener, Delaware scored six runs in the first and seven in the fourth to take a 13-1 lead. Joey Loynd had four hits, two home runs, and three RBIs for Delaware. Bryce Greenly homered and scored two runs. Bret Lesher had three hits including a home run and six RBIs.

Zach Bailey had three hits including a double for the Pride, while Palmer had a triple and a double. Steve Harrington had a three-run home run and drove in four runs in the game. 

Hofstra and Delaware will conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m.

-Hofstra is 32-82 all-time versus Delaware.
-Palmer has a five-game hitting streak.
-Hofstra is 9-12 all-time in CAA openers.
-The Pride picked up their first road win of the season (1-9).
