Tyler Thomas scored a season-high 29 points and added a career-best tying 11 rebounds to lead Hofstra past Stony Brook, 79-58, in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup Saturday evening at the David S. Hofstra moved to 17-8 on the season overall and 10-2 in league play with the victory. Stony Brook slipped to 8-16 overall and 4-7 in CAA action with the loss.Â
In addition to Thomas' 29 points, Hofstra received 14 points from a trio of players -

Jaquan Carlos had his first career double-double with a career-best 10 rebounds to go along with 10 assists. He also added four steals.Â
Hofstra led 41-29 at halftime following a tight first half that saw the Pride pull away in the final 4:33. Though Hofstra never trailed, there were three tie scores with the last at 22-22. The Pride held a 28-27 lead with 5:10 to play in the half when Plotnikov scored seven consecutive points for the Pride, igniting a 13-2 run to end the stanza. Plotnikov scored nine of his 14 points in the opening 20 minutes.
The Seawolves would score the first eight points of the second half, five by Frankie Policelli to cut the deficit to four, 41-37, nearly three minutes in. A jumper from Plotnikov, two free throws from Carlos, and a jumper from Thomas pushed the lead back to 10 points, 47-37, with 15:26 remaining. Stony Brook would not get closer than seven points the rest of the game and Hofstra would command a double-digit advantage for almost the entire final 10 minutes of action, with the 21-point final margin its largest lead of the game.
Toby Onyekonwu led four Seawolves in double-figures with 15 points. Kenan Sarvan had 14 points, while Policelli and Keenan Fitzmorris each had 12. Policelli pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
