A Perfect Ten; Hofstra Extends Win Streak to 10 With Sweep Of Stony Brook

Stony Brook, NY - Tyler Thomas scored a team-high 23 points and the Pride clamped down defensively down the stretch as the Hofstra men's basketball team rallied for a 68-65 win over Stony Brook on Saturday evening at Island Federal Arena. The win was Hofstra's 10th in a row.

Warren Williams had 12 points for the Pride, which got 11 points and some great defense in the final minutes from Darlinstone Dubar

The win streak is now tied for the ninth-longest in program history with similar length streak during the 1999-2000, 1959-60, and 1957-58 seasons. It is only the 11th streak in school history of 10 or more games and the longest win streak since the 16-game streak during the 2018-19 campaign.

The 10-game win streak is tied for the third-longest active streak in NCAA Division I men's basketball.

The win upped Hofstra's record to 22-8 this season and 15-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Stony Brook dropped to 10-19 and 6-10 in the league. The Pride swept the season series with the Seawolves. Hofstra also captured its 12th win in its last 13 road conference games and 15th in its last 17 games in that scenario.

It was 5-0 quickly in favor of the Pride as Thomas scored a pair of buckets in the first minute to give Hofstra the early advantage. Hofstra would still hold a four-point lead, 10-6, at the 12:05 mark before Stony Brook used an 11-2 run to earn a 17-12 lead with 7:58 left before intermission. The Pride eventually knotted the score at 17, but once again the Seawolves answered and this time used an 8-2 run to lead 25-19 with under three minutes left. Stony Brook would take a six-point lead into the locker room.

It didn't take long in the second half for Hofstra to knot the score as Nelson Boachie-Yiadom hit a layup at the 16:16 mark to even the score at 37. The teams would go back and forth until Stony Brook was able to create some breathing room and opened up a five-point lead, 50-45, with 11:19 left in regulation. The lead didn't last long for the Seawolves as German Plotnikov, Thomas, and Williams each had baskets during an 8-0 run that made it 53-50 Hofstra with 7:24 on the clock.

Stony Brook took its final lead at 58-57 with 4:23 remaining before Hofstra mounted its winning rally. Thomas got it started with a pair of free throws and in all it was a 7-0 run that included baskets from Dubar and Williams, making it 64-58 with 1:06 left. The Pride pushed the lead to seven in the final minute before settling in for the three-point victory over their Long Island neighbor.

Aaron Estrada added 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists for the Pride, which also got seven points and four rebounds from Plotnikov. Hofstra, which committed only nine turnovers in the game, was a stellar 21-24 from the free throw line.

Tyler Stephenson-Moore had 27 points for Stony Brook, while Keenan Fitzmorris added 12 points for the Seawolves.

Hofstra will conclude the regular season next Saturday when it hosts Northeastern at 2 p.m. For ticket information visit HofstraTickets.com.
