Hempstead, NY -
Aaron Estrada had 21 points and
Jaquan Carlos added eight assists and 10 rebounds to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to a 73-43 rout of Hampton on Thursday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Pride raced out to an incredible 45-17 lead at halftime and never looked back in posting their ninth straight win.
The win was the Pride's ninth consecutive victory and Head Coach
Speedy Claxton has now won 21 games in each of his first two seasons at the helm. The win streak is tied for the 12th-longest in program history and the longest since the incredible 16-game streak during the 2018-19 campaign.
Hofstra is now a tremendous 10-1 at home this season and the Pride has won 12 of its last 13 games at the Mack Sports Complex.
With the win, Hofstra improved to 21-8 and a spectacular 14-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Hampton fell to 6-22 and 3-12 in conference play with its fifth consecutive loss.
It took just over five minutes for Hofstra to jump out to a double digit lead as a layup from
Tyler Thomas put the Pride in front 15-5 at the 14:55 mark. The lead would just grow from there with it reaching 21 at the 6:21 mark following a basket from
German Plotnikov that made it 32-11. There was no let up in the Pride the entire opening stanza with the lead growing to 28 as
Darlinstone Dubar closed the first half scoring with just 27 seconds left.
Hofstra scored the opening basket of the second half to bring the lead to 30 as
Nelson Boachie-Yiadom hit a hook shot in the lane. The Pride cruised from there with 12 players seeing playing time in the contest.
Thomas added 13 points and four rebounds, while
Warren Williams posted 12 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks for Hofstra. Boachie-Yiadom tallied six points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Dubar chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.
Jordan Nesbitt led Hampton with 19 points and added eight rebounds. Kyrese Mullen pulled down 11 rebounds and added five points for the Pirates.
