Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra women's basketball team put on a dominating display inside the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex, setting a new program-record for points scored and points allowed in a 113-24 victory over Farmingdale State.
The 113 points smashes the program's previous high-mark of 105 set against Pace during the 1978-79 season, and it is Hofstra's first 100-point game since scoring 101 against Concordia (NY) on December 2, 2013. Meanwhile, the Hofstra defense limited Farmingdale State to the fewest points allowed in a game in school history, besting the previous record of 26 points allowed against Barnard during the same 1978-79 campaign.
Saturday's win moves Hofstra to 5-4 overall, snapping a two-game losing skid for the Pride.
Emma Von Essen dropped an eye-popping 29 points against the Rams as one of five Hofstra players to score in double figures. The sophomore sharpshooter tallied nine three-pointers, the most in a game since Ana Martinez Gil finished with eight against Campbell on December 21, 2019.
Selma Markisic posted 20 points for the home side on seven field goals and five threes, while
Brooke Anya scored 16 points.
Janaia Fargo finished with 14 points, and
Alarice Gooden added 12.
Tionna Baker led all players with nine rebounds, and
Ally Knights dished out 10 assists.
The Pride raced out to a double-digit lead over the Rams from the opening whistle, leading wire-to-wire against the visitors. Hofstra held Farmingdale State without a basket from the 7:13 mark of the first quarter until Layla Mendoza converted a layup with 1:49 remaining before halftime as Hofstra scored 63 first half points to take a commanding 63-7 lead over the Rams.
The scoring continued into the third quarter for the Pride, posting a season-high 34 points in the third quarter while limiting Farmingdale State to just six for an 84-point lead going into the fourth quarter, where the Pride offense crossed the 100-point threshold for the first time in 10 years en route to its fifth win of the season.
