Tapia Upset Win Highlights Hofstra's Day At Cliff Keen LVI

Las Vegas, NV - Freshman Noah Tapia upset No. 14 Jordan Williams of Oklahoma State in the 149-pound consolation bracket and advanced to the first round of eight as Hofstra wrapped its stay at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational at the Paradise Event Center Friday night.

Tapia dropped his first match of the tournament to No. 1 Ridge Lovett of Nebraska in the championship round of 32. Lovett, who was also the top seed at the weight, won by fall at the 1:35 mark. The Pride freshman then scored a 7-5 decision over The Citadel's Jeffrey Boyd in the first consolation round of 16 before pulling off the upset of Williams, 12-11, in the second round of 16. In addition to being ranked 14th in the nation, Williams was also the 11 seed in the tournament. However, Tapia's run would come to an end in the first round of eight as he dropped a 7-0 decision to South Dakota State's Alek Martin.

In addition to Tapia, Hofstra also got wins in the tournament from Dylan Ryder andRoss McFarland. Ryder defeated Sacred Heart's Jake Ice by fall in 1:07 at the 125-pound consolation round of 16 #1, while McFarland scored an 11-1 major decision over Air Force's Noah Blake in the 174-pound consolations round of 16 #1.

Hofstra will be back in action next Sunday, December 10 at No. 1 Penn State. Match time in University Park, Pennsylvania, is set for 1 p.m.
