Hofstra Drops Non-Conference Contest to Old Dominion

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team concluded its trip to Virginia with a 4-1 defeat to Old Dominion on Sunday in a battle between former conference rivals. Hofstra is now 5-7 overall, and Old Dominion is 7-5.

The Monarchs scored first nearly four minutes into the contest on a penalty strike, scored by Marlon De Bruijne on a shot just past the stick of Pieke Roos. Silvia Vetter tied the score at 1-1 at 7:39 of the third quarter on a penalty stroke of her own when an Old Dominion defender used her foot to block a shot. The tie score was short-lived as Old Dominion jumped right back in front nearly one minute later on an unassisted goal by De Bruijne, putting the score at 2-1 in favor of Old Dominion after three quarters.

Old Dominion added a third goal at the 6:09 mark of the fourth quarter off the stick of Sacha De Gier, and they tallied the fourth and final goal of the afternoon late in the contest from Aubrey Mytych.

Roos tallied 12 saves against the Monarchs, including on an Old Dominion penalty stroke in the third quarter. Vetter led the team with three total shots, while she and Tara McNally both had one shot on goal.
