Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team outshot Towson 11-9 and earned six corners to Towson's two, but it was the Tigers who came out on top in a 1-0 win over the Pride from Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium in Coastal Athletic Association competition. Hofstra slips to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the CAA, and Towson improves to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Following a scoreless first half that saw Hofstra take eight shots to Towson's two, the Tigers scored the game's lone goal just shy of the halfway point of the third quarter. After a pass back to
Teresa Karoff slipped underneath her stick, and Towson's Lexi Bove picked up the loose ball with a numbers advantage against the Pride. She slipped a pass to teammate Samantha Aljets, who maneuvered around a charging
Pieke Roos and sent the ball into the net for the eventual game-winner.
Hofstra had a number of opportunities to even the score while trailing, but they were either snuffed out by the Towson defense or Tigers goalie Tessa Scheenstra, who finished with seven saves for the visitors.
Tara McNally led all players with five shots, all on goal, while
Cami Valor had a pair of shots for the Pride.
Hofstra will travel to Connecticut for a Sunday non-conference contest against Quinnipiac at noon.
NOTES:
-Hofstra's all-time record against Towson is now 32-12. The loss snaps the Pride's 12-game winning streak versus the Tigers.
