Cinel Slams Down A Career-High 19 Kills In Hofstra Win

Greensboro, NC - Yagmur Cinel had a career-high 19 kills and Beatriz Alves added 42 assists, seven digs, five blocks, four kills, and three service aces to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a four-set win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon. 

Clara Bal added 13 kills for Hofstra, which improved to 14-4 and 4-3 in CAA action. North Carolina A&T dropped to 4-11 and 2-5 with the loss. The Pride won by set scores of 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, and 25-22. 

The offense was clicking in the first set for the Pride as Hofstra hit at a .344 clip with 15 kills on 32 attempts and only four errors. The strong offensive showing allowed Hofstra to take the early lead in the match. After the Aggies evened the score, Hofstra would retake the lead with a three-point win in the third set as they held A&T to a .148 attack percentage. The Pride would put the finishing touches on the win in the fourth set as they hit nearly .300 in earning the important road victory. 

Sarah Pierre added eight kills and three blocks, while Nil Kayaalp tallied 12 digs. 

Kaili Doctor had 16 kills and Naiya Sawtelle posted 12 kills for North Carolina A&T. 

Hofstra and North Carolina A&T will meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 3-0 all-time against North Carolina A&T. 
- Cinel's previous career-high of 18 kills came against Charleston on October 8, 2022. 
- Bal reached double figures in kills for the sixth consecutive match and team-leading 15th time this season. 
- Cinel led Hofstra in kills for the fifth time this season. She has reached double figures seven times in 2023.
