Hofstra Rally Falls Short

Greensboro, NC - The Hofstra volleyball team nearly pulled off a reverse sweep after dropping the first two sets, but North Carolina A&T was able to capture the fifth set to earn a five-set win over the Pride on Sunday afternoon. Izadora Stedile had 17 kills and 12 digs for her team-leading ninth double-double of the season. 

Set scores were 23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, and 13-15. 

Hofstra fell to 14-5 and 4-4 in CAA play, while North Carolina A&T improved to 5-12 and 3-5 in the league. 

The Pride started the comeback in the third set as they hit nearly .400 in earning the win. They would flip the script in the fourth set as they held the Aggies to a .031 attack percentage to even the match. Hofstra looked to be in control in the decisive fifth set, holding a 9-4 advantage, but North Carolina A&T rallied back and would earn the narrow win.

Clara Bal added 14 kills and five digs for the Pride, which also got 14 kills and seven digs from Yagmur Cinel. Beatriz Alves tallied 54 assists, six digs, and six kills, while Nil Kayaalp had a team-best 20 digs. 

Naiya Sawtelle had 21 kills and 14 digs for North Carolina A&T. The Aggies also got 42 assists and 14 digs from Chiara Napoli. 

Hofstra will host William & Mary next weekend for a pair of matches. Both matches will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 3-1 all-time against North Carolina A&T. 
-Stedile led Hofstra in kills for the fifth time this season. 
- Kayaalp led Hofstra in digs for the sixth time this season.
