Hofstra Picks Up CAA Win With Shootout Victory At William & Mary

Williamsburg, VA - Hofstra outscored William & Mary, 4-2, in the shootout with Cami Valor netting the deciding tally as Hofstra picked up a 1-0 Coastal Athletic Association victory over William & Mary Friday evening at Busch Field.

Hofstra improved to 5-6 overall and earned its first CAA victory of the year, moving to 1-2 in league play. The Tribe dropped to 4-6 overall and suffered their first CAA loss to slip to 3-1.

The teams played an evenly matched opening two quarters without scoring. At halftime, the Pride had three shots to the Tribe's four. Hofstra goalkeeper Pieke Roos made four first half saves, while Maddie George stopped all three of the shots she faced for William & Mary.

The Tribe ramped up the pressure in the fourth quarter and two overtime periods, outshooting the Pride, 12-6. But Roos was up to the task as she recorded five of her nine saves in that time.

Following 80 minutes of scoreless play, the teams went to the shootout where each team "scored" on their first two attempts. Tara McNally and Teresa Karoff converted chances for the Pride, while Lonica McKinney and Kellen Richbourg converted for the Tribe. But Roos made back to back stops, including a penalty stroke after a foul on William & Mary's third attempt, and Jamie Mc Millan out home Hofstra's third attempt to set up Valor for the clincher. The Pride senior came through, beating George (7 saves) to give the Pride the win and snap a two-game losing streak.

Hofstra will return to action Sunday at Old Dominion with a 12 p.m. start time.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 8-17 all-time against William & Mary with the win snapping a six-game losing streak against the Tribe.
-The Pride is now 1-1 on the road this season.
