Roos Stops 22 Shots in Loss at Northeastern

Dedham, MA – Hofstra's Pieke Roos put on goalkeeping clinic against Northeastern with 22 saves, but the Huskies won 6-2 over the Pride in a late-season CAA contest from Dedham, Massachusetts.

Hofstra's record moves to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the CAA, while Northeastern is now 3-2 against league opponents and 7-8 overall.

A sophomore from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Roos' 22 saves are the most by an NCAA goalkeeper in a single-game this season, topping the previous high of 19 stops by Michigan State's Cecily Charles against Northwestern.

Northeastern came out of the opening whistle firing, taking 16 shots in the first quarter while limiting Hofstra without a shot in the first 15 minutes. The Huskies tallied the first goal of the day six minutes into the contest on a scramble in front of Roos' goal. Northeastern would score twice more in the second quarter, putting the score at 3-0 to the home side, before Maya Williams brought the Pride to within two on an exquisite individual effort that saw her score the first goal of her collegiate career.

Hofstra cut Northeastern's lead to one when Tara McNally finished off a pass from Jamie Mc Millan past Northeastern keeper Kristina Merashoff two minutes into the start of the third quarter, putting all the momentum behind Hofstra. Unfortunately, Hofstra couldn't find the tying goal as Northeastern scored the next three goals, including one goal before the end of the third quarter, as the Huskies put the game well out of reach for the visiting Pride.

In addition to her goal, McNally led the Pride with three total shots and two shots on goal.

Sarah Coyle and Alex Mega scored two goals apiece for Northeastern, while Mak Graves and Lara Taylor also tallied goals. Merashoff made three saves between the posts for the Huskies.

Hofstra remains in New England for a non-conference game against Bryant on Sunday at 1 p.m.

NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 7-22 all-time against Northeastern.
-This is the third game of Roos' career with double-digit saves in a game.
