Aaron Estrada had 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists, but it wasn't enough as Towson rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Hofstra men's basketball team, 68-47, on Monday afternoon at SECU Arena.
The loss ends the Pride's four-game win streak and drops Hofstra's record to 12-8 and 5-2 in conference play. Towson improved to 12-7 and 4-2 in Colonial Athletic Association action.
Hofstra jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the contest as
Darlinstone Dubar had five early points during an 11-0 Pride run that closed with a layup from Estrada. The Pride would still hold a 10-point advantage at 13-3 with 15:40 on the clock before Towson scored the game's next 17 points to open up a 20-13 advantage with 8:18 left before intermission. The Tigers got the lead up to nine before
Jaquan Carlos drained a three-pointer to close the gap to 25-19 with just over three minutes left. Towson was able to take a 30-20 lead into the locker room as the Tigers scored the final three points of the stanza.
Twice in the opening minutes of the second half Hofstra was able to make it an eight-point game, the final time at 32-24 with 18:06 left after a basket from Estrada. Towson pushed the lead to 16, 44-28, as they used a 7-0 scoring run nearing the midway point of the half. The Tigers would never seriously be challenged the rest of the way as they went on to earn the win over Hofstra.
Carlos added nine points and five assists for the Pride, which got seven points and nine rebounds from
Nelson Boachie-Yiadom.
Nicolas Timberlake led Towson with 17 points, while Cameron Holden added 13 and Nygal Russell tallied 12 rebounds.
