Hempstead, NY -
Aaron Estrada had 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals and
Warren Williams joined him with 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to a convincing 86-62 win on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improves the Pride's record to 12-7 and 5-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Delaware is now 10-8 and 2-3 in the league.
A slow start to the game saw the contest knotted at four before the Pride used a 9-2 run to open up a 13-6 lead. Williams keyed the run with four points as the Pride opened up the seven-point advantage. Holding a five-point lead with under 10 minutes left before halftime, Hofstra took complete control of the game as the Pride went on a 14-1 run that culminated with four straight points from Estrada. Delaware rallied later in the half to close the gap to 10, but Estrada finished the first half scoring with a pair of free throws to put the Pride in front by a dozen.
Hofstra pushed the lead to 20 early in the second stanza as a quick 7-0 scoring run made it 49-29 with 16:04 left in regulation. The Pride would never let up in the second half, opening up as much as a 27-point lead before putting the finishing touches on one of the most complete efforts of the season.
Tyler Thomas added 16 points and five rebounds for the Pride, while
Jaquan Carlos tallied 14 points, six assists, five rebounds, and five steals.
Ebby Asamoah led Delaware with 13 points and added seven rebounds, while Jyare Davis posted 10 points and nine rebounds.
Hofstra returns to action on Monday when it travels to Towson for a rare 12 p.m. contest on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
