Hofstra Extends Winning Streak To Three With 20-Point Victory Over Monmouth

Hempstead, NY - Warren Williams scored a season-high 18 points and Hofstra used a 13-0 run midway through the first half to take a lead it would not relinquish in a 77-57 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Monmouth at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex Wednesday night. Tyler Thomas also scored 18 points in the victory, which extended Hofstra's winning streak to three games. 

The Pride improved to 11-7 overall and 4-1 in the CAA with the win. Monmouth dropped to 1-16 overall and 0-4 in league action. The Hawks have lost eight consecutive games. 

Williams also led the Pride with seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Hofstra also received double-figure scoring from Jaquan Carlos and Aaron Estrada with 12 points each. 

Hofstra led, 4-2, in the early going before an 8-0 run from the Hawks prompted a Pride timeout with 15:49 on the clock. The Pride would come out of the timeout and score four unanswered points on baskets from Williams and Nelson Boachie-Yiadom before Monmouth answered with five straight to lead 15-8 with 12:24 to play. Trailing 18-12, Hofstra scored six consecutive points to tie the score with 8:33 to go on Thomas' fall-away baseline jumper. Hofstra retook the lead, 21-18, on German Plotnikov's three-pointer with 7:50 on the clock as the Pride's run extended to 9-0. The Pride would get back-to-back baskets from Thomas and Amar'e Marshal to extend the lead to seven, 25-18, and the run to 13-0. The Hawks scored four in a row before Estrada drained a three-pointer to put Hofstra back up by six, 28-22 with 4:18 remaining, The Pride would score eight of the final 12 points to take a 36-26 lead into halftime.  

The Pride scored nine straight points to open the second half, extending its lead to 45-26 on Thomas' jumper with 15:35 remaining. The Hawks scored their first points of the half with 13:48 to go on a Jack Collins three-pointer. Tahron Allen followed with another basket 30 seconds later to cut Hofstra's lead to 14, 45-31. The Hawks pulled within 11, 49-38, on another Allen jumper but Thomas and Carlos hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to extend the lead back to 17, 55-38, with just under 10 minutes to play. Monmouth would not get closer than 10 the rest of the way. The Pride would lead by as many as 25, 75-50, following a Carlos three-pointer with 2:25 remaining.  

Allen led Monmouth with 13 points, while Myles Foster chipped in with 11.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 7-6 all-time versus Monmouth and has won six consecutive games. 
-Williams' previous season-high was 12 points against Hampton and Massachusetts.
-Hofstra improved to 4-1 at home in 2022-23.
-The Pride has won 37 games in a row when holding opponents below 60 points. 
-Carlos scored his 12 points on a career-high tying four three-pointers.
-Hofstra shot 56-percent from the field
