Denver, CO - Freshman
Clara Bal continued the strong start to her rookie campaign with 11 kills and 11 digs but Denver rallied for a four-set win over the Hofstra volleyball team on Saturday evening at Hamilton Gymnasium. The match was the Pride's third at the Denver Invitational.
Hofstra slipped to 2-5 with the loss, while Denver improved to 3-3 with the victory. Set scores were 25-14, 18-25, 23-25, and 12-25.
Junior
Yagmur Cinel tied Bal for team-high honors with 11 kills and added six digs and a match and career-high four service aces.
The Pride got off to a hot start in the match, completely dominating the opening stanza as they hit .579 in the opening set.
Denver rebounded, though, and won the next three sets to take the match.
Sophomore
Beatriz Alves posted 35 assists in the match and fellow sophomore
Chiara Cucco picked up a team-best 12 digs.
Memphis Glasgow had 13 kills to lead the Pioneers, which also got seven kills and 11 blocks from Cadi Boyer.
Hofstra returns home to host St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday at 6 p.m. That match will air on FloVolleyball.
NOTES
- Today's match was the second-ever between Hofstra and Denver. The teams met back in 1997 with the Pioneers winning a five-set affair.
- The double-double was the third of the season (and second consecutive) for Bal.
- Pierre has had at least six blocks in three matches this season.
