Balanced Attack Powers Pride

Hempstead, NY - Sophomore Beatriz Alves tallied 38 assists, 10 digs, and six kills, freshman Clara Bal posted 12 kills and six service aces, and sophomore Chiara Cucco picked up 23 digs to lead a balanced attack as the Hofstra volleyball team dispatched of St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. 

Hofstra upped its record to 3-5 with the win, while the Terriers fell to 2-6 with the loss. Set scores were 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, and 25-19 in favor of the Pride. 

A dominant first set saw Hofstra hit at a .481 clip as they cruised to a 10-point win in the stanza. After the Terriers tied the match at one, the Pride gradually pulled away and won a close third set before putting the finishing touches on the win with a six-point victory in the fourth and final set. Hofstra was back to a strong offensive flow in the fourth set, hitting .333 to earn the win. 

Seniors Zyare Abdul-Rahim and Sarah Pierre each added eight kills for Hofstra, with Pierre leading the Pride with five blocks. 

Camelia Melendez had 15 kills for St. Francis Brooklyn, while Alasha Colon posted 12 digs for the Terriers. 

Hofstra is back on the court this weekend when it travels to Syracuse for a trio of matches at their tournament. The Pride will face the Orange on Friday before taking on Army West Point and Yale on Saturday. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is now a perfect 10-0 all-time against St. Francis Brooklyn. With the win over the Terriers, the Pride is now 120-35 (77%) all-time against teams from the state of New York. 
- Bal's six service aces were the most for a Pride player since Ana Martinovic had six against St. Francis Brooklyn on August 31, 2021. 
- Cucco's 23 digs marked a new season-high and the first time cracking the 20-dig plateau this season for the sophomore. 
- The double-double was the first of the season for Alves.
