Hofstra Drops CAA Opener At Stony Brook

Stony Brook, NY - Stony Brook scored a pair of second half goals to take a 2-1 victory over Hofstra Saturday afternoon in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams at LaValle Stadium. Ryan Carmichael scored for the Pride with 80 seconds to play to prevent the shutout.

The teams played a scoreless first half that was not without chances for the Pride. Eliot Goldthorp sent a free kick just wide and had another shot hit the crossbar. The Pride also missed a penalty kick and had another ball cleared off the line by a Stony Brook defender.

Mason Tatafu had a chance early in the second half as he put a head on a corner kick that was saved by Stony Brook keeper Curtis Copenhaver. The Seawolves got on the board in the 73rd minute as Amit Magoz knocked in a rebound of a Jonas Bickus shot, which was initially saved by Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel. Four minutes later, Kameron Blaise made it a 2-0 game when he converted a pass from Selcuk Kahveci.

Speel finished with three saves, while Copenhaver had three for Stony Brook.
