Hofstra Blanks Sacred Heart for 3-0 Home Win

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team picked up its third shutout win of the season with a 3-0 decision over Sacred Heart from on a gusty Friday afternoon at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.

Hofstra moved to 4-5 with today's win, and Sacred Heart drops to 0-7 on the season.

The Pride waited until the final two minutes of the opening quarter to get on the board, thanks to the stick of Cami Valor. Fede Schroder entered into the Sacred Heart arc and attempted a cross into the front of the goal. The ball bounced around the crowded area before Valor nudged the ball over the line and into the net with 1:37 remaining in the quarter.

The Pride made it a 2-0 game late in the second quarter. Following a foul-induced reset, Cami Larsson passed to a cutting Simryn Desai, who one-timed the shot over the shoulder of Sacred Heart goalie Samantha Maresca and off the far post for the goal with 2:09 remaining before halftime for Desai's second goal of the season.

Sydney LeGuillow added the insurance goal for the Pride midway through the fourth quarter. On the fifth penalty corner of the game for Hofstra, Larsson had her shot saved by a diving Maresca, but the ball fell to LeGuillow, who lifted her shot over the outstretched goalie and into the back of the net at 8:07 of the game.

Pieke Roos made four saves to earn her first win and first shutout. Valor led Hofstra with four total shots, while Samantha Spera had all three of her shots on goal. Teresa Karoff made a defensive save for the Pride in the first quarter.

For the Pioneers, Maresca made 13 saves between the posts, while Hannah Fawle recorded a defensive save. Isabelle Chamberlain led the team with three shots, all on target.

The Pride returns home for their next set of games, starting with the CAA opener against Northeastern (1-6) on September 30 at 3 p.m., followed by a non-conference contest against Bryant (4-4) on October 2 at 1 p.m.
