Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra volleyball played a pair of matches on Saturday at the Syracuse Tournament. The Pride dropped their morning match to Army West Point before falling to Yale in the tournament finale this afternoon at the Women's Building.
The losses drop Hofstra's record to 3-8 this season. Army West Point improved to 4-6 with the win and Yale moved to 5-1 with the victory. Set scores were 22-25, 19-25, and 23-25 against Army and 22-25, 15-25, and 22-25 against Yale.
Sophomore
Chiara Cucco posted 17 digs against Yale for the Pride, while fellow sophomore
Beatriz Alves tallied 20 assists and 11 digs. Hofstra got a team-high nine kills, as well as 13 digs, from freshman
Clara Bal.
Bal also led Hofstra in the match against Army West point with eight kills, while Cucco picked up 16 digs. Alves had 27 assists and seven digs for the Pride.
Hofstra will now set its sights on Colonial Athletic Association play as the Pride travels to Stony Brook next weekend for a pair of matches. Both matches (Saturday and Sunday) will begin at 1 p.m.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 6-3 all-time against Army West Point and 4-4 all-time against Yale.
- Alves now has three double-doubles this season.
